Human Rights Internship in
Lebanon

Purpose |
|
The Foundation for Human
and Humanitarian Rights in
Lebanon is providing a
unique internship that
brings the knowledge of
human rights theory and
practice into a
challenging experience.
Benefiting from a thorough
human rights course at the
university level, interns
are expected to use their
understanding to conduct
practical field work in
ongoing human rights
issues in Lebanon.
By giving interns an
insight into the
Foundation’s work, the
program intends to
increase the participants
understanding of current
human rights issues in
Lebanon and the wider
Middle East, in order to
help educate the future
defenders of human rights
across international
borders. |

Course |
|
Though not a full fledged
academic institution, the
Foundation offers a human
rights course that is now
taught in the leading
seven Lebanese
universities. Students
will learn of the
philosophical roots of
human rights thought as
well as the practical
methods that can be used
to put human rights into
practice. |

|
Tasks |
|
Interns are involved in
drafting reports and press
releases as well as the
administration of the
Foundation’s archives.
Interns will also be
involved in the
organization of HR related
events and or campaigns
that happen to occur
during their internship
period. Towards the end of
the internship candidates
will be given the
opportunity to conduct
their own research or on
the ground investigation
of human rights issues in
Lebanon, within the
capacity of the
Foundation. |

Qualifications |
|
Applicants must be
enrolled in a 3rd or 4th
year undergraduate program
or graduate program or
completed a degree in any
general field ranging from
Human Rights Law to
Environmental Studies,
including the following
fields: International Law,
International Relations,
Development Studies,
Sociology, History,
Political Science,
Journalism, Gender
Studies, Web Design, or
related fields.
The participants must have
a good command of at least
one of the following:
English, Arabic or French.
Candidates with a
knowledge of two or more
languages will be given
preference. |

Internship Dates and
Duration |
|
The internship will
proceed for a period of
four weeks, befinning from
July 20th through to
August, comprising of an
educational program as
well as a practical
application of the
participants knowledge.
The internship period may
be renewed depending upon
the work being conducted
by the Intern. |

|
Conditions of Internship |
|
The Foundation does not
remunerate interns who are
expected to bear their own
travel costs and living
expenses. Interns are
responsible for making
their own travel
arrangements and for
obtaining visas. Interns
must have their own health
insurance. (Please see
annex for technical
assistance and contacts). |
